Candida: The Villainous Fungus That Disrupts Womens Happiness

Candida albicans is a type of fungus that causes vaginal infections. It can thrive on the skin and in bodily secretions. As the fungus grows, it penetrates the tissues and transforms into a hyphal form that anchors itself to the skin layers, leading to vaginal issues such as abnormal discharge, vaginal inflammation, itching, unpleasant odor, and vaginal dryness.

Symptoms
- Itching and irritation around or inside the vagina
- Swelling of the genital area
- Burning sensation during intercourse or urination
- Red rash around the genital area
- Thick, white, odorless vaginal discharge, sometimes watery

Prevention Methods
- Avoid douching, as it kills bacteria that control fungal growth
- Use antibiotics only when necessary
- Avoid scented feminine products and perfumed sanitary pads
- Dont wear wet clothes for extended periods, such as swimsuits or workout gear
- Avoid tight-fitting clothes
- Use water-based lubricants
- Keep blood sugar levels under control for diabetic patients

Treatment
**Oral Medication:** Fluconazole
**Topical Medication:** Suppositories and creams
**Supplements:** Probiotics, beneficial microorganisms, help balance gut flora, boost immunity, and certain strains reduce inflammation, produce antibacterial and antifungal agents, and lower the chances of fungal overgrowth.

 Microbe Bank
The world is home to a vast array of living organisms, numbering in the thousands or even millions, particularly microorganisms which are incredibly numerous. Currently, however, we can only study about 1% of all microorganisms on Earth. This leads to an important question: “What can we do with the microorganisms we have on hand?” To address this, the concept of a Microbe Bank was established. The Microbe Bank serves as a repository for the collection of microbial data and samples, aimed at conservation, research, and development purposes. Additionally, it supports the utilization of microorganisms in various fields such as medicine, agriculture, and environmental science. In Thailand, there is a National Biobank (NBT - National Biobank of Thailand), which has been established to preserve microorganisms for the long term and to support research aimed at developing the microbial economy. Proper management of the Microbe Bank must adhere to international standards, such as obtaining ISO9001 certification, which focuses on the quality of microbial samples, and ISO20387, which sets standards for biobank resource management.
